Most Conservative voters now want Boris Johnson to resign

Fifty-four per cent of Tory supporters want Johnson to leave office, a 20-point increase since June.

By Saywah Mahmood

For the first time, a majority of Conservative voters want Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister

More than half (54 per cent) of Tory respondents to a snap poll by YouGov said that they wanted Johnson to leave office. This marks a 20-percentage point increase from the last time Conservative voters were polled, in June.

Overall, nearly 70 per cent of Britons now think Johnson should resign, an increase of 11 percentage points from the previous poll.

More than 20 Tory MPs, including the former chancellor Rishi Sunak and the health secretary Sajid Javid, have resigned from the Johnson government in less than 24 hours (at the time of writing).

Earlier this year, Johnson faced a confidence vote in which he performed worse than any other sitting Conservative prime minister.
