German election 2021: How did Germany vote?

Jeremy Cliffe gives a run-down of the winners and losers in the German federal election.

After the election the major parties, including the SPD, CDU/CSU, the Greens and the FDP, are ready to begin talks to decide who will form the next coalition government and who will succeed Angela Merkel as chancellor.

Jeremy Cliffe in Berlin is joined by Emily Tamkin in Tel Aviv on the morning after the election to discuss the results. How did Germans vote? Which parties gained and which lost seats? And what does it all mean for the coming coalition talks and the country’s next government?
